22.08.2024 - The increasing interconnectedness of systems along the supply chain provides cybercriminals with many different ways to attack an organisation. It is therefore important for companies and public authorities to understand their supply chains and be aware of the cyber risks they face. National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has launched a pilot project together with Planzer Transport AG so that companies, authorities and organizations in Switzerland can easily implement their cyber security requirements in the supply chain. A simple cycle was designed to demonstrate protective measures against cyber attacks in the supply chain. The pilot project also provides specific tools that are published on the NCSC website. At the Online Brownbag Lunch on 5 September 2024, the NCSC and Planzer Transport AG will demonstrate how organizations can correctly assess cyber risks in their supply chains.
A software supply chain survey by Anchore shows that 62% of organisations worldwide were impacted by a cyberattack in 2022. Only 19% of these organisations actively work with their suppliers or subcontractors. Cyberattacks on suppliers or subcontractors can have a serious impact on the companies they work with. Understanding your organisation's supply chains and the risks they face is therefore essential.
Preventive measures and tools
With this in mind, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is currently running a pilot project with Planzer Transport AG to bring together industry and cyber security expertise and resources. The aim is to raise awareness of cyber risks along the supply chain and develop practical tools for organisations to use. The simple process and tools are available on the NCSC website. Feedback on this pilot project is also collected on an ongoing basis through a feedback form in order to improve and expand the tools.

The NCSC is hosting an online lunch meeting on 5 September with Simon Kuhn, IT Security Officer at Planzer Transport AG, and Sandra Lüthi, NCSC Awareness and Prevention Expert, to discuss how organisations can properly assess cyber risks in their supply chains and the questions they should be asking themselves and their suppliers.
