01.04.2022 - The NCSC collects and classifies the cyberincident reports it receives and publishes these figures on its website on a weekly basis. Due to the growing need for information, the categories have been expanded and the graphics adapted.
Since mid-2020, the NCSC has been publishing statistics on reported cyberincidents on its website. The reports are submitted to the NCSC by private individuals and companies using the reporting form. Each report is screened, responded to if requested and classified in a main category and subcategory. All of these reports enable the NCSC to identify trends in various cyberphenomena and set priorities for risk-reducing measures. The statistics have been available on the NCSC website as interactive charts since September 2021. Individual categories can be selected, thereby allowing individual evaluations to be carried out.
Interest in the statistics has grown steadily in recent months. In order to meet this increased need for information, the NCSC has decided to publish certain subcategories as well. Up to now, the NCSC has only published main categories such as «fraud», «phishing» and «malware». However, the fraud category in particular includes numerous subcategories such as «fake sextortion», «fake support» and «investment fraud». These are now additionally taken into account and presented.
Moreover, the reported ransomware cases are listed under malware. As before, the evolution of each phenomenon over the last 12 months is displayed. This makes it possible to identify possible trends as well as waves in both the main categories and the subcategories.
The charts are updated with the previous week's data at midnight every Monday.
The corresponding phenomena are described in more detail in the «Cyberthreats» section of the website: Specific and preventive tips are also listed there for if you are affected by a case yourself.
The most interesting cases of the week are covered in a weekly review every Tuesday.
