21.10.2024 - On Monday, 21 October, the ambassadors of the ASEAN countries in Switzerland met with NCSC Director Florian Schütz for a working meeting. The FDFA was represented by the South-East and Pacific Regional Coordination Team. The agenda included a presentation of the National Cyber Security Centre, Switzerland's cooperation with ASEAN countries in the digital sector, and initiatives on cybersecurity and digitalisation within ASEAN.
At the invitation of the chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Bern (ACB), Indonesia's Ambassador to Switzerland Ngurah Swajaya, representatives of the National Cyber Security Centre NCSC, led by Director Florian Schütz, as well as the FDFA and representatives of the embassies of ASEAN states in Switzerland, met on Monday, 21 October for a joint exchange. The representatives of the ACB were given a presentation on the NCSC, covering its structure and mandate following its upgrading to federal office status on 1 January 2024, and also discussed existing dialogues between Switzerland and ASEAN in the digital sector. Furthermore, ASEAN highlighted possible areas of cooperation between Switzerland and the countries of Southeast Asia.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a political and economic grouping of ten countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore. The ASEAN chairmanship in 2024 is held by the Lao People's Democratic Republic and will pass to Malaysia in 2025. In addition to economic issues, cooperation in ASEAN also focuses on the areas of digitalisation and cybersecurity. This year, Singapore took on the task of setting up a regional ASEAN CERT.
Countries in the Southeast Asian region are an emerging force in the field of semiconductor chip manufacturing, digital applications and cybersecurity solutions. A decision was therefore taken at the meeting to deepen cooperation in selected areas between the NCSC and ASEAN.
